Carla Bruni Sarkozy, the 43-year-old wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy delivered a baby girl on Wednesday at the La Muette clinic in Paris.
Carla already has a 10-year-old son from her previous relationship while Nicolas Sarkozy has three sons from two previous marriages. Well, Carla had admitted that the latter stages of her pregnancy was difficult. It is true that having a baby at this point in life can be challenging.
Doctors agree that physically, the best time to have children is when women are in their twenties or ideally, between 19 and 25. Psychologically, though, women are better off having children when they are in their thirties. In her thirties, women still dream of the future and yet have gained enough emotional experience to be realistic about her expectations. This dichotomy makes it tough to choose an ideal time for having a baby.
However, here are some reasons why having a baby after 40 should work for Carla. The most important factor is that by the time you are 40, you've mostly satisfied all of your ambition. In turn, you'll be a calmer person and a patient mother. If you have other, older children, the newest baby will have older carers who will take a genuine interest in him/her. This also means there there will always be people around to care for the baby. The downside of this is that the baby will tend to become dependent on others around and will automatically have this conception that there will always be people to do his/her work.
Thus like everything, having a baby after 40 has its downsides as well as advantages.
