NEW DELHI: With Google I/O 2014 conference less than a month away, a
couple of pictures of the rumoured Nexus 8 tablet have leaked online.
These images, leaked by Chinese website MyDrivers, show that the device
will look exactly the same as Nexus 7, with only the bigger screen size
as the main physical change. Nexus 8 is being developed under the codename 'Flounder' and will be positioned as a rival to the second-generation iPad mini. Its key features are said to be the next version of Android (4.5 or 5.0) and 64-bit processor.
However, Qualcomm, the only company that has announced plans to make 64-bit chips for Android devices, will not be ready with the chipsets till next year. Therefore, there is still some shadow of doubt over the rumours of 64-bit processor in Nexus 8.
An earlier report had said that Google will adopt Intel's Bay Trail-T
processor platform for the upcoming Nexus 8 tablet. However, Qualcomm —
the maker of Snapdragon chipsets that power the current generation of
Nexus models — is "still striving for related orders."
Nexus 8 is also said to pack 3GB RAM under the hood and rumoured to be manufactured by HTC.
