Nexus 8 is being developed under the codename 'Flounder' and will be positioned as a rival to the second-generation iPad mini. Its key features are said to be the next version of Android (4.5 or 5.0) and 64-bit processor.
However, Qualcomm, the only company that has announced plans to make 64-bit chips for Android devices, will not be ready with the chipsets till next year. Therefore, there is still some shadow of doubt over the rumours of 64-bit processor in Nexus 8.
An earlier report had said that Google will adopt Intel's Bay Trail-T
processor platform for the upcoming Nexus 8 tablet. However, Qualcomm —
the maker of Snapdragon chipsets that power the current generation of
Nexus models — is "still striving for related orders."
Nexus 8 is also said to pack 3GB RAM under the hood and rumoured to be manufactured by HTC.
